EDUCATION:

2000 - Ph.D., Cornell University (Geophysics and Tectonics)

1988 - B.S.-M.S., University of Bucharest, (Geophysical Engineering)

RESEARCH:

Application of active source seismology to the structure, composition, and physical properties of the Earth crust and upper mantle; geodynamic evolution of orogenic belts, structure and origin of sedimentary basins, physical properties of marine gas hydrates, and seismic wave propagation and imaging in petroleum exploration; field experience in exploration seismology and in deep seismic reflection/refraction profiling; most recently (fall 2001) participated in the planning and execution of a major regional seismic project in the Romanian Carpathians; use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as a tool in the accurate spatial integration of geophysical and geological data; extensive research in areas including the Carpathian orogen (Romania), the Caspian basin (Azerbaijan), and the Uralian orogen (Russia).
